Christopher Silva

Animschool Instructor

Hi! My name is Chris and I'm currently a Senior Gameplay Animator working at id Software. I have over 15 years of industry experience with 14 of those years focused on animation. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2008 and started my career path at a small game studio based out of San Diego. From there, I pivoted into a technical animator role at Rhythm & Hues. A profession I wasn't planning on taking, but grateful for because it gave me the base knowledge and understanding of working within the industry and collaborating with others on a production pipeline. After a year, I started to feel the pull of animation, so I chose to attended an accredited trade school and received my animation degree in 2011. From there, I was able to secure an animation role at Rhythm & Hues working on films like Hop and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. After a short, but incredible year, I was fortunate enough to secure a fulltime role as a feature animator at Blue Sky Studios. There, I had the honor to work on a multitude of films such as Ice Age 4, Ferdinand and Spies in Disguise to name a few. After a long 10 year journey, it was time for me to make another pivot in my career adventure. I graciously excepted a position as Senior Cinematic Animator at Blizzard Entertainment on Diablo 4. From there, I pivoted to a Lead Animator for the In-Game Cinematics team and shipped my first AAA title. As a lead animator, I had the opportunity to serve a team of enthusiastic animators looking to grow in there chosen career professions. It was this experience that drives me to be a part of Anim School and provide those same opportunities I was fortunate enough to receive when I started so many years prior.

Outside of film, Kyle has worked on various commercials and projects at studios in New York, including Nathan Love, Framestore NY, Psyop, and Charlex. When greeting Kyle, it's best to speak "Well, well, well..." in a snide and condescending tone, communicating a wholly unwarranted skepticism. This greeting works best in his natural habitat, such as when approaching from a distance in a long studio hallway, appearing unexpectedly from behind, or standing hidden behind the wall or large tree as he turns a corner. However, it has been known to be an effective way to put him at ease over Zoom and video communication, as he adapts to the changing landscape of the 21st Century.

I have worked for over 15 studios on over 25 3D animation & CGI productions. With 10 years of professional rigging experience and a talent for out-of-the-box thinking and creative problem-solving, I specialize in making the complicated art of rigging as simple as possible. I explain advanced concepts in simple terms, allowing students to get inspired and surprise themselves with their progress in learning a new and often intimidating area of study. As with any lengthy process, rigging can be made much easier to manage by breaking it down into small tasks, which I do by focusing on modular rigging and by putting less emphasis on programming and mathematics, which should be seen as time-saving tools in your workflow, and not a necessary crutch for rigging characters.

Hi! I am a former Pixar, Disney and Dreamworks animator with film credits such as Tangled, Wish, Spiderverse II, Croods and Sea Beast. Recently finished up on the upcoming Ice Age movie. I have had the amazing privilege of working with the legends Glen Keane and James Baxter. Growing up on Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and all the great and Disney, animation movies and storytelling quickly became my deepest passion. When I started teaching back in 2019 at animschool I developed another passion for teaching. I got lucky being able to learn from a great teacher back at Ringling, who I attribute most of my success to, so I know how important a good teacher is to an animators success. I try my best to adjust to each students need and help others the way I was helped. Animation is hard yo and sometimes we just need encouragement and a little help to make that breakthrough. Are you ready to create some awesome animation together?!

Stefano Dubay

Animschool Instructor

I'm Stefano Dubay, a Rome-born character artist, concept designer, and digital sculptor with over two decades of experience across the world's top animation and visual effects studios. My journey has taken me from the cobblestone streets of Rome all the way to the Hollywood Hills and back across the Atlantic — and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. It all started with a Mathematics degree in Rome, which might seem like an odd jumping-off point for a career in animation — but hey, there's a lot of geometry in a good character model! Hungry for more and with a dream bigger than the Colosseum, I packed my bags and moved to sunny Los Angeles to train at the legendary Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood. That decision changed everything. From there, my career took off faster than I could have imagined. I had the incredible privilege of working at some of the most respected studios in the industry — Sony Pictures Imageworks, Rhythm and Hues, and Psyop — sharpening my craft and learning from some of the best artists in the business. But the crown jewel of my time in LA was without a doubt my years at Walt Disney Animation Studios, where I had the joy of contributing to some of the most beloved animated films of the last decade, including Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, and Big Hero 6. Yes, I helped make Elsa's hair flow, and I am very proud of that. After nearly a decade in the City of Angels, I felt the pull of Europe calling me back. I returned to the continent and took on the role of Modeling Supervisor at Brown Bag Films, one of Europe's largest and most celebrated animation studios, where I led teams and helped shape the visual identity of multiple productions. From there, I crossed the channel to London, joining the powerhouse visual effects studio DNEG (Double Negative) as Lead Modeler and Concept Artist, working across large-scale productions and continuing to push my creative boundaries. These days, I work as a freelance concept artist and character developer, which means I get to wake up every morning and design weird, wonderful, and wildly fun characters for a living. Most recently, I had the absolute thrill of developing Miss Friday and Mr. 13 for the latest season of Netflix's live-action One Piece series — a project that reminded me exactly why I fell in love with this art form in the first place. The adventure is far from over, and I can't wait to see where the next character takes me.
