Introduction to 3D Modeling

An introduction to the principles of polygon modeling, applied to simple objects.

This course teaches professional topology layouts for hard surface and character modeling. Students learn modeling workflows to achieve desirable shaping, and common rest states for rigging. Students model organic and inorganic objects, a real-world household object, model a designed vehicle, and a designed character bust. Students learn basic modeling concepts like edge flow, working with manipulators, isolate selection, primitives, history, loft, bevel, extrusion, duplication, transformation space, soft selection, reflection editing, lattices, converting geometry types, projects, and workspace.
Students learn how to effectively interpret a design and realize that vision in 3D space. Students will also be taught about visual appeal, and how to make their models stand out.

Luis currently holds a position as Craft Leader/Modeling supervisor/Artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios, he also had a successful career at Sony Pictures Imageworks as a Senior Character Modeler in the visual effects department and DreamWorks Animation as a Senior Modeler in the animation department. Luis has carved his name in the film industry as a 3D visual effects and Animation artist for more than 20 Years. His talent has gained international recognition and the films he has worked on have been credited with several prestigious awards and nominations including One Oscar for Best achievements in Visual Effects (Spiderman 2), Three Oscars for Best Animated Features (Frozen, Big Hero 6, Encanto), One Oscar for Best Animated Short Film (Feast) and seven Academy Award nominations (Best Animated Feature Film, Best Achievements in Visual Effects and Best Visual Effects). Some of his film accomplishments include: -Pirates of the Caribbean, Van Helsing, Spiderman 2, X-Men 2, I am Legend, Watchmen, Superman Returns, Monster House, The Matrix Revolutions, Open Season, Surfs Up, Haunted Mansion, Cursed, Peter Pan, How to Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, Turbo, Wreck-it-Ralph, Frozen, Feast, Planes: Fire & Rescue, Big Hero 6, Frozen Fever, Strange World, Once upon a studio, Zootopia 2 as a modeling artist. - Gigantic, Frozen 2, Once upon a Snowman and Encanto as Environment modeling supervisor. -Zootopia 2 as a craft leader in the environment modeling department.

Tatiana is an instructor with over 20-years of teaching experience. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree, completed a course in classical 3D sculpture. She is a former Animschool graduate and has always had incredible passion for art. Currently holds a position as Mech Modeling Supervisor and Hard Surface/ Prop and Mech Modeler on MechWest Series.
